I grew up in Northern California skateboarding, and in my twenties I got into tattooing. Now I’m bringing those two worlds together through Boulder City Board Co.
This Plague Doctor deck is the first board in what I’m calling my Flash & Thrash collection: hand-painted skateboard decks inspired by traditional tattoo flash, punk rock, horror, and skate culture.
I started with a blank deck, laid down the red and black background, and transferred the artwork using the same type of thermal stencil machine and tattoo transfer paper I used back in my tattooing days. From there, every part of the design was painted by hand, including the Plague Doctor, coffin frame, lantern, skull, and BCBC logo. Then I finished it with a smooth, glossy clear coat to protect the artwork and give the whole board that deep candy-red shine.
There’s something pretty damn cool about taking an idea, painting it on a skateboard in my living room, and watching it turn into a real BCBC deck.
And this one isn’t staying with me.
The Plague Doctor deck will be given away as a complete skateboard with Independent trucks and Spitfire wheels at the BCBC skate event on Saturday, October 24, from 5–8 PM at Craig Ranch Regional Park skatepark. The winner will be chosen at 8 PM. Just show up, skate, and be willing to be filmed for BCBC social media.
This is only the beginning. More hand-painted Flash & Thrash decks are already coming to life, and every one will have its own artwork, attitude, and story.
Built in Boulder City. Painted by hand. Made to be skated.
